Gismo The T.V King (2015)
Gismo The T.V King
As an assignment of my second year of studies in university, we were tasked to choose a character which the university had supplied us from a local school. The character I chose was Gismo The T.V King, drawn by Joel, mainly for his unique look and robot - like build.
I spent a few months changing parts of Joel's initial design to make it "animation - frienldy" , stretching out his proportions and adding different colourations. The hardest part for me was gettinmg my bearings with Green Screening and having to deal with masking out the character from all of the colliding colours.
In the end, I had tonnes of fun animating this character and was pleased with the final character performance.
Here I took apart the design of Joel's character, seeing what attributes need changing
Here is some facial expressions I tried out to see what suited the character
I drew some random poses which I felt characterised the character even more, giving him personality.
This was the promotional piece I had shown to my lectures for their opinions on the character re - design.
This is the final turnaround sheet I used to get a good indication of my characters dimensions.
After taking time off, I made a statue of the character holding his sword up in his signature pose
I used poster paint, air drying clay and metal supports inside of the character to build him.
