Fitzgerald The Fishmonger (2015)
Fitzgerald The Fishmonger
After a fun year of learning the basics of animation, I was tasked with creating a final year project for my first year at university. I came up with some rather wacky ideas but, couldn't decide which one to pick. A visit to Swansea Market, and the "performance" of a local fishmonger caught my attention. Recognising the comedic potential, I used his character towards building my own.
The characters design was influenced by Aardman Animations character proportions for e.g. Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run.
After finishing the characters armature, I found it a challenge to experiment with getting the timing correct in order to make movements more fluid / believable. All that was left to be needed was a voice actor and I went with choosing my friend Kassian Tyler, who's accent nearly matched the Fishmonger in Swansea Market !
The end result is a light hearted and funny animation which I was chuffed to see in its final form.
Practising Drawing the character in different poses
More action poses showing the character in different poses / actions
Here were the main poses in which my character would be making during the animation
Here I tried to make my character have different expressions, picking ones which will be suitable for the animation
Final Turnaround sheet for my main character
This was the first concept piece of my character which I had to present to my lecturer
Here is the concept art for both of the characters present in the animation, Fitzgerald and the Fish
This concept piece was to show the environment in which my character would be situated in
Before creating the final armature of my character, I took the opportunity to practice sculpting my character and this was the result.
