"Golfnado" (2016)
"Golfnado"
It’s finally here !!
The third and final year of my studies at The University of South Wales, Cardiff, and it's certainly flown by !!
The opening requirements of the year meant I was tasked with animating a performance piece (mime), with a simplistic character design and integrating that performance within After Effects.. and "Golfnado" was born.
The premise of “Golfnado” relies upon the cocksure golfer, thinking he has mastered the game (which we ALL know will never happen !). When he attempts to tee off and misses, he gets frustrated, causing him to miss again and sending him into a spiral. The resultant tornado firstly picks him up and then eventually deposits him with an ignominious thud back to earth. His humiliation is complete as his club also succumbs to gravity with a slapstick clunk to the head.
This piece of work brings me back to my comedic roots and I thoroughly enjoyed animating and editing every second of it. As simple as the premise and look may appear, I 'm well satisfied with the finished outcome.
I made a poster to go along with the animation.
The Characters Armature was one I bought and assembled from Animation Tool Kit
I padded the characters armature out with foam to prevent slipperiness and less reflective surfaces from lighting.
One feature of my characters simple design was his Golf cap and side burns. Just little details to add more character.
Afterwards, I made a Golf Club to go with the main characters personal arsenal.
This is the character finalised, posing and ready for animating.
This background (with the layers included) was the final version I drew and added in the final animation. Every object is layered for free manipulation while editing
As a part of my assignments briefing, it was required to name and organise files on after effects. Making sure its not cluttered while editing.
I did it again with the sounds that were included in the animation as well. All to create the finished short - "Golfnado"
